Choosing a website design agency for B2B should be a carefully thought-through process and it will impact and define all the work for your website project going forward. In this blog, we give advice on how to get the best web design agency to help you reach your website redesign goals. Here are 10 important things that a company needs to consider that will help during the shortlisting process:
- Do they have a discovery process?
- Do they have a proven website design process?
- How do they plan to increase conversions from your new website?
- What’s their experience with B2B?
- Do they have designers, developers and content in-house?
- What level of communication and input is required?
- Can they meet your deadlines?
- What’s their flexibility like?
- How much will it cost?
- Can they provide support after your website goes live?
1. Do they have a discovery process?
A discovery process will allow both you and your chosen agency the opportunity to discuss your business, customers and competitors, and should take the time to understand your goals and make sure everyone is on the same page. It also allows the agency to ensure that they get a rounded view of your processes with input from people from different aspects (i.e. sales, marketing, etc.)
2. Do they have a proven website design process?
What’s their website process like? When you’re shortlisting, you want to not only understand whether or not they have a website process, but does it work? Can they show examples of their process? Are you able to meet the agency to get a feel of their day-to-day dynamics and how they work together?
Most website design processes tend to be quite fragmented due to the number of aspects involved, however, the most beneficial process is one that is collaborative so that all elements of the project can be worked on together.
3. How do they plan to increase conversions from your new website?
You want your new website to look great, sure. But a good website design agency should be able to offer their expertise and insight into how they can make your new website work harder for you. If you’re redesigning your website, it’s likely because you’re not getting enough from your old website. Whether it’s not attracting enough visitors or generating enough leads - an agency should take a holistic view of your current website and determine how they can improve conversions.
4. What’s their experience with B2B?
B2B is vastly different from B2C, so your agency should have experience in building websites for B2B. Why? If your company sells quite niche services and/or products, you need an agency that is not only technically capable but is able to understand the intricacies and nuances of your market in order to design and build a website that truly reflects your B2B brand.
5. Do they have designers, developers and content in-house?
If you already have your own in-house resources, that’s great. But what makes a great website design agency is that they have a full team of experts, from design to development and content, so that they can impart their knowledge. Additionally, ask if they have a UX person on their team - if they do, they’ll help to effectively map out a consistent user journey across your new website as well as providing some great insight into how users interact and engage with your website.
6. What level of communication and input is required?
Depending on your project, make sure this is discussed right from the off. You want to understand how the agency works and what you’re expecting from them, but also you want to know what’s expected of you.
7. Can they meet your deadlines?
Determine whether the agency has enough resources and time to be taking on your project. If they have a huge number of clients already, understand how they intend to fit your project in alongside them and whether they will be able to provide enough focus on your website.
Tell the agency whether the deadline is final, or whether there needs to be a contingency in place.
8. What’s their flexibility like?
Determine how flexible an agency can be. Will they allow for multiple amends, or will you be restricted? How flexible can they be in working on your website project and will you be able to get in touch with a point of contact easily?
9. How much will it cost?
If you’ve already budgeted for your website project, let the agency know what your costs are, what you’re expecting and whether you have limitations on further spend. Obviously, make sure to agree on all costs from the beginning so that you’re not met with any surprises later on.
10. Can they provide support after your website goes live?
Find out what kind of support is available to you after your website goes live. Will you be able to manage the website yourself or will you need some technical help later down the line? Will the agency provide any training? Hash these out in the beginning and understand what sort of support the agency is able to provide.
