Big Chip Awards: Best Digital Marketing Campaign

The judges said The Factory "was an entry that made us laugh out loud, bringing a potentially dry subject to life"

So there it is.The judges of the Big Chip Awards have shown themselves to be men and women of the extraordinary intelligence and discernment. We never doubted it.Last night they awarded axongarside with a Commendation in the Best Digital Campaign category. This was one of the most highly contested categories and we were one of only a handful of agencies receiving a Commendation in any category on the night.

The Big Chip awards are serious award and the judges are all experienced digital marketers themselves . It is the first time that we have entered these - or any other Awards - so this is a huge achievement for us and especially for Andy Goddard whose concept The Factory is and for Kim, K3's account director at axongarside. Kim and Andy have worked with a great team including Paul Mashall who built the sites for the campaign and Simon Wharton whose efforts have played  an important part in the huge increase in website traffic that K3 have seen since the campaign began.

Most of all though we need to thank Howard Joseph and Ellen Hoefste at K3. Like many other agencies, we have had our fair share of great campaigns over the years  (if we say so ourselves) which have never seen the light of day because the client did not have the vision to run with them. Howard and Ellen know that playing safe does not reap the rewards that a more ambitious approach can deliver and had faith in our creativity and judgement. This is therefore their acheivment as much as it is ours.

Taking serious and often complex messages, distilling and then making them stand out from the crowd to create vital opportunities to sell in the process, whatever the industry or the media, is what we enjoy doing and we've had a lot of fun taking part in the Big Chips this year. If they draw attention to the great work coming out of the northwest and to the possibilities that are now available to marketeers, so much the better.

At last - the new axongarside website

Excuses of 'cobblers shoes' can only go on so long. Can anything be more difficult than a marketing agency designing its own website?

Over the next few months we'll be developing our themes and hobby horses about the always challenging, always changing but always exciting world of B2B marketing. For now I'm off to the Big Chip Awards so expect Friday's missive to either shout from the roof tops about the wonders of Digital Manchester and all who sail in her, or to explain in a cool and unbiased, not to say slightly hungover fashion, why Awards are and always have been a wasteful distraction and an outlet for the vicious egotism of self-important judges.
